Current Rule: 12.1 - A strict off-season salary cap shall be set at $83 million for each team. A team may go above the cap during the season but their in-season salaries must not exceed $88 million during the season or post-season, and it must be at or below this cap following the completion of the season.
Proposed Change: Increase the salary cap by $5 million to $88 million. In season becomes 93 million
Explanation: Our salary cap has been $83 million for the entire time of the league. That was when we had 50 players and salaries could not go above $10 million. Now we have 52 (potentially 53) players and salaries can go above $10 million. I think adding $5 million to the cap helps pay for both the salary increases and expanded rosters.
I thought we cut the salary cap a couple years ago? In an effort to keep teams from buying a championship. having more money to make moves towards a championship? Just trying to clarify but i thought we just lowered the cap. it used to be 93 mill in season.

A couple of years ago we voted to reduce the Salary Cap from the conclusion of the free agent draft through the end of the season from $93.0million to $88.0million. At that time the Salary Cap during and until the end of the free agent draft remained at $83.0million.
Yes, the difference between the end of the draft and the in-season cap is still $5 million - so everyone would get a bump in the cap to offset the addition of players and increases in salary, but teams still won't have much money to make in-season trades.
Sorry but I don't like this idea. Working with a tight cap helps promote parity. More money will just lead to salary inflation and undermine the rule we passed removing the $10m individual player cap.
I would like to keep things as is at this point and see how it plays out. Last year seemed to be a year where are current rules are starting to have an affect. I would like to see this play out more. And congrats to Salem on their championship.
